The Central Highlands District of Queensland is a rugged and beautiful area with sprawling farmlands, rivers, lakes, swamps and rocky mountain ranges. Miners and casual visitors to Emerald often stop by Fairbairn Dam for some rest and relaxation, which is located about a 25 minute drive south west of the town. With camping, caravan, boating and barbecuing facilities the Dam is a great place for a quick dip or an afternoon of fishing. Keen anglers can try their luck catching the popular Red Claw Crayfish or any one of the several varieties of fish that the Dam is stocked with.

Emerald Airport is located 6 km south of the town’s CBD with 45 return flights to Brisbane each week as well as a mining charter to Townsville. Visitors or workers coming into Emerald and looking for a rental car to get around in are able to conveniently book through Skedaddle and then pick up your hire vehicle at the terminal of Emerald Airport upon arrival.
