The beautiful coastal city of Hervey Bay is situated just under 300km north of the Queensland capital of Brisbane. Hervey Bay is often regarded as the whale watching capital of the Australia! Humpback whales can often be seen from the coast during the migration season between April and October. There are quite a few whale watching tours operating out of Hervey Bay or if you’ve hired a car you can drive along the coast and search for a great lookout point yourself. There is nothing quite as heartwarming as watching a mother whale and her calf play and relax in the bay before they make the long trip to Antarctica.

The waters of Hervey Bay are popular for a variety of sports and activities including sailing, diving, sea kayaking and swimming. The fishing in the region is also great, particularly around Fraser Island so consider booking in with any one of the fishing charters operating out of the region to land a big one.
