Newcastle is arguably the second capital of Sydney and home to 150, 000 Novocastrians. It is the second biggest city in the state, and the sixth biggest Australia-wide. Rest at ease, most of the big car hire companies such as: Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar and Thrifty are available in Newcastle, so you don’t have to fret about your means of travelling around the district.

Where is Newcastle?

Newcastle is a just a stone’s throw away from Sydney, easily reachable by car, at a small distance of 150 kilometres. It is quite centrally located on the eastern coast of New South Wales.

What is There to Do There?

There are loads of beaches to visit in Newcastle. Jump in the rental car and make your way towards popular spots such as: Bar Beach, Nobbys Beach, Redhead beach and  Dudley Beach. There is also the famous Newcastle Ocean Baths, pools drawing seawater, there is three of them located throughout various parts of the city.

The different seasons bring new and exciting festivals to the town, such as The Mattara Festival held over the Labour Day long weekend. That’s not all though, there is also the “This Is Not Art Festival” which is a showcase of emerging artists across many mediums and genres.

A huge drawcard for the town is the annual “Surfest”, Australia’s largest surfing contest.

There is also an event which is rising in popularity, “Cultural Stomp”, a celebration of the regions different cultural influences.

Where Else Can You Go?

Within driving distance of Newcastle is Sydney, the biggest and most exciting city in Australia. Or you could drive the hire car over to the Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest and most prestigious wine region. Another possibility is the National Parks in Barrington Tops and Myall Lakes for the outdoorsy types.
