Coolangatta is a city on the Queensland/New South Wales border, which is the lowest part of the Gold Coast. It has beautiful beaches to the east and mountains idyllic for trekking to the west. Luckily, there is major car hire services such as: Thrifty, Budget, Avis, Hertz and Europcar available to visitors.
Where Is Coolangatta?
Coolangatta is about 1 hour drive from Brisbane, and about 20 minutes away from the Gold Coast, you if you get your car hire in those cities, it should be no trouble to drive into Coolangatta.
What Is There To Do There?
You’ll never be short of fun things to do in Coolangatta. If you’re into scuba diving, you can’t go past Cook Island as a top dive spot. If bushwalking is your thing, there is some great tracks around Mt Warning, Mt Cougal and Wagawn.
Of course, Coolangatta is home to some of the continents best beaches, so make sure you to take a dip at Coolangatta Beach or Rainbow Beach.
You can stop by Tropical Fruit World, where the kids can be educated on the different tropical fruits grown in the area, it’s a short trip from the main part of Coolangatta, so jump into the car hire with the kids and away you go. You might also like to go out to the lighthouse at Point Danger, where Queensland and New South Wales border each other on the sea.
How Do You Get There?
If you’re in Brisbane, it’s just a short drive south along the Pacific Highway, no more than an hour. Other options include flying into Coolangatta Airport (where it’s easy to get a car hire), from most major cities in Australia or buses from surrounding areas such as Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads and Surfers paradise.
